Nascar’s Call for Aggressiveness Is Met by a Deliberate Crash
“Boys, have at it and have a good time,” Nascar’s vice cheap LeBron James sneakerspresident for competition, Robin Pemberton, said in January. If drivers wanted to use their fenders to bump others on the track — “Rubbin’ is racin,’ ”as they say — Nascar would not necessarily penalize offenders.
An inevitable result of that approach came Sunday during a Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, where Carl Edwards drove his No. 99 Ford deliberately into the rear quarter panel of Brad Keselowski’s No. 12 Dodge. The hit sent Keselowski’s car airborne in a wreck that could have injured not only the driver but fans as well. No one was hurt, but Keselowski and the former driver Kyle Petty called for Nascar to penalize Edwards.
Nascar idled Edwards for the rest of the race as punishment after the cheap air jordan 1 accident — he finished 39th — and met with him at the track. Officials are expected to decide on further penalties as early as Tuesday.
“It looked like it could have been payback from the No. 99 on the No. 12,” Pemberton said after the race. “We talked with Carl after the race and we have an understanding about it..”
Edwards freely acknowledged the hit was deliberate after Keselowski wrecked him earlier in the race. Edwards wrote this on his Facebook page Sunday night:
“My options: Considering that Brad wrecks me with no regard for anyone’s safety or hard work, should I: A-Keep letting him wreck me? B-Confront him after the race? C-Wait til Bristol and collect other cars? Or D-Take care of it now? I want to be clear that I was surprisedcheap nike shox R4 at his flight and very relieved when he walked away. Every person has to decide what code they want to live by and hopefully this explains mine.”
The incident was not the first between the veteran Edwards and Keselowski, a young driver who has quickly gained a reputation as aggressive on the track. Last April, as a part-time driver in the Cup series, Keselowski was behind Edwards on the final lap of a race at Talladega, Ala. Edwards went to block a hard-charging Keselowski from passing, but instead Keselowski held his ground. The racecars hit and Edwards was sent airborne and into the catch fence at Talladega. Seven fans were injured in a horrific crash. Keselowski won the race and Edwards endedNike air max tn up 24th.
After Sunday’s wreck, Keselowski called on Nascar to take action against Edwards.
“They have the ball,” Keselowski said. “If they’re going to allow people to intentionally wreck each other at tracks this fast, we will hurt someone either in the cars or the grandstands. It’s not cool to intentionally wreck somebody at 195 miles an hour.”
Petty, who lost his son Adam in a crash in 2000, called oncheap Ed Hardy Women Boots series officials to suspend Edwards. The next race is March 21 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
“This was a blatant, flagrant foul and he ought to be parked,” Petty, who is now a broadcaster, said on SpeedTV. “He shouldn’t show up at Bristol, and that’s just my opinion.”
But recent precedent is on Edwards’s side. Nascar declined to punish Denny Hamlin when he deliberately spun out Keselowski in a lower-level Nationwide Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in November. Hamlin was given a slap-on-the-wrist discount Timberland Men Bootsone-lap penalty for the infraction.

Oscar winner 'The Cove' to become the basis of a new TV series
Fans of "The Cove," the environmentally themed film that won the best cheap air jordansdocumentary Oscar last night, will be happy to know there's more where that came from.
A new television series about the controversial dolphin trade in Japan, tentatively titled "Dolphin Warriors," has been greenlit by Animal Planet.
The series picks up where the movie leaves off and, like the film, stars animal activist Ric O'Barry. Two episodes of the series -- which is being executive produced by O'Barry's son, Lincoln -- have already been completed, although a premiere date has yet to be announced, Ric O'Barry said.
Animal Planet says the series may premiere in the fall, after "The Cove" debuts on the channel this summer.
"The Cove" tells the story of an annual rite in Taiji, Japan, where fishermancheap Nike Dunk SB sell dolphins into captivity or kill them for meat. As depicted in the film, the practice is cruel and the dolphin meat contains risky levels of mercury.
O'Barry is an activist who once worked as a trainer on the popular 1960s television show "Flipper." After watching a dolphin he worked with commit suicide in his arms, he came to the conclusion that dolphins were not meant to be kept in captivity. He has dedicated his life campaigning for animal rights, a quest that eventually took him to Taiji (you can read more about his efforts here).
The show will address questions that fans of the film may have wondered about -- such ascheap Nike Shox Sneakers whether the slaughter continues and whether the Japanese still unknowingly eat mercury-laden dolphin meat. "What has happened now is that they're not killing dolphins in the cove; they've moved offshore," O'Barry said. "They've created an artificial cove out of nets, and they drive the dolphins in there and kill them so we can't photograph it. But we have some drones and small planes and things to prove it."
Marjorie Kaplan, general manager and president of Animal Planet, said the film's message was perfect for the channel.
"Ric and Lincoln O'Barry are fascinating men with an important mission and remarkable stories to share," she said. "We're delighted to be working with them on their next project."If a press release issued by the government in Taiji last night is any indication, the Japanese remain cheap nike air maxunimpressed by the film's success. "There are different food traditions within Japan and around the world," read the statement. "It is important to respect and understand regional food cultures, which are based on traditions with long histories."
On the Oscar telecast, O'Barry held up a sign urging interested viewers to text message a number for more information about how to support the cause. More than 50,000 text wholesale air jordan fusionmessages have come in so far, O'Barry said.
The activist also encountered a number of celebrities at the Oscars who said they would visit Taiji next September, when the annual dolphin slaughter begins. Daryl Hannah, Sting and Ben Stiller have already pledged their support, he said.
Until then, O'Barry, now 70, is heartened by the fact that the film will be released at a limited number of Japanese movie theaters in June.
"They can't deny this film anymore," he said. "The lastcheap adidas sneakers couple of months have meant validation, in a word. It's been a breakthrough for me."

How did 'The Hurt Locker' defy the odds at the Oscars?
It's amazing that "The Hurt Locker" won best picture at the Oscarscheap ugg boots despite having three strikes against it. "The Hurt Locker" didn't feature A-list stars. It wasn't successful at the box office. And maybe, worst of all: it was about the Mideast war, a topic usually cursed at the Academy Awards.
So how did it pull off this Oscar miracle?
For starters, "The Hurt Locker" had some high-caliber oomph behind it. It was distributed by Summit, a studio with bold leaders who had deep pockets and something to prove. Flush with money from the "Twilight" movies, Summit wanted to be taken seriously as an artistic player in Hollywood.
Early on, Summit hired Cynthia Swartz and her Oscar soldiers at 42West to head up its academy campaign. Swartz had been a key player in the past blitzkriegs behind "Chicago" (and other Miramax flicks when she was still a commander in Harvey Weinstein's army), "Crash" and "No Country for Old Men" and other successful award champs.
Swartz likes to take on daredevil challenges. A few years ago, for example, she adopted a gritty, hip-hop film ugg boots on salecalled "Hustle & Flow" just to see if she could ram it past the academy's fuddy-duddy bias. Bingo. She ended up nabbing a best-actor nomination for Terence Howard and reaped a win for best song ("It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp").
The initial groundswell of support for "The Hurt Locker" came from a pure, heroic source: the film critics. It hadn't fared well on the awards front at first. It competed last year at the Indie Spirits, for example, and only reaped nominations for actors Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie. Nothing for picture, director or screenplay.
But when "The Hurt Locker" entered this year's derby, things were different. It gathered momentum quickly, launching a bandwagon that was hard to stop. The Indie Spirits' rival award, the Gotham, named it best picture. It swept the film critics' trifecta: Los Angeles, New York and National Society. Those are critics' groups comprised of mostly print-based, cynical, gritty journalists who are renowned for picking quirky stuff like "Mulholland Drive" that doesn't break through into the Oscars. Then "The Hurt Locker" won best picture from the Critics' Choice Awards. That was odd because it's a prize bestowed by members of the Broadcast Ugg Classic Short BootsFilm Critics Assn. They're largely part of the junket press just like Golden Globe voters. Both groups tend to be similar in taste to Oscar voters.
The Golden Globes picked "Avatar," but that wasn't too strange: they've been out of sync with Oscar voters four out of the past five years. Then something extraordinary occurred. "The Hurt Locker" won laurels from the directors' and producers' guilds, which usually predict what wins best picture at the Oscars. Think about it: the producers — people in charge of generating cheap jordan shoesprofit — endorsed a financially unsuccessful movie. That meant that "The Hurt Locker" had not only crossed over from the film critics to the film industry, but that it landed with nuclear force.
As "The Hurt Locker" headed into the Academy Awards, it was clear that it could beat the odds and actually win. When nominations came out, "The Hurt Locker" and "Avatar" tied for the most: nine. Right behind, with eight, was "Inglourious Basterds."
"The Hurt Locker" positioned itself as little David battling Goliath ("Avatar"), a shrewd move since everybody always roots for the little guy. In this case, though, it wasn't a guy. Its filmmaker was a sexy gal, Kathryn Bigelow, who just so happened to be the ex-wife of Goliath – "Avatar's" James Cameron. What irresistible drama! Even better, if Oscar voters picked sexy Team Bigelow to endorse, they got a bonus. They got to make history by giving the Oscar for best director to a woman for the first time — a breakthrough longcheap nike dunk high top overdue.
Looking back, maybe "Avatar" never had a realistic chance of beating "The Hurt Locker." No sci-fi movie has ever won best picture. Only two ever got nominated: "Star Wars" and "E.T." "Basterds" had a realistic chance of sneaking by them both considering it won best ensemble at the SAG Awards, a prize that's tattled twice before on Oscar best-picture upsets in the works: "Crash" and "Shakespeare in Love." But its push came too late. If only Harvey Weinstein had given up on "Nine" and jumped aboard his "Basterds" horse earlier, he might have ridden it to victory. Looking back, I think "Basterds" was the only film that could've stopped the "Hurt Locker" bandwagon.
Summit hasn't revealed how much it spent on its academy campaign, but a source close to the film insists that it was modest. An Oscar campaigner behind a rival film up for best picture (not "Avatar") scoffs at that claim. Some Oscar-watchers believe that 20th Century Fox spent the most of all Oscar campaigns this year on behalf of "Avatar," but that's hard to establish. "Avatar" was released at Oscar time. Its expenditures for an awards blitz were inter-mingled with regular PR, advertising and marketing.
Even if "Avatar" did spend the most, it couldn't stop the "Hurt Locker" juggernaut. Nothing could, not even a few suicide bombs set off by "The Hurt Locker" troop themselves. The movie that started out with three Oscar strikes against it ended up having three more near the end of the derby: accusations that it wasn't accurate, accusations that it was too accurate (an army sergeant claims the movie ripped off his own story) and the embarrassment of its producer being banned from the Oscars ceremony because he broke campaign rules with offensivecheap air force 1 shoes emails. Together, they added up to a serious plot complication -- another twist that looked like it had been ripped from a Hollywood movie just like the whole setup of an ex-husband and wife squaring off with David vs. Goliath movies in the Oscars coliseum.
In the end, the best-picture Oscar victory of "The Hurt Locker" is more than just a great thing for Summit. It's good for the Oscars because it was championed all through derby season by film critics who believed strongly in its quality and only had the most noble of motives.
But why did all of these awards, including the Oscars, agree on this Mideast war movie after previously pooh-poohing others like "In the Valley of Elah" and "Jarhead"? Probably because "The Hurt Locker" doesn't force viewers to make a political judgment about the war. Instead, it forces viewers to experience first hand the terror and horror chestnut ugg boots of what it's like to live in a sun-baked hell where everything could, literally, blow up in your face at any moment.

Doctor in Drug Inquiry Says He Treated Rodriguez
If true, Rodriguez could be in violation of his contract with the Yankeescheap MLB jerseys because the team said in a statement last week that it never authorized Rodriguez to be treated by the doctor, Anthony Galea.
In an interview Monday with The New York Times, Dr. Marc Philippon, the team-authorized doctor who performed hip surgery on Rodriguez last March, said he never gave approval for Galea to treat the third baseman after the surgery.
Philippon said that if Galea gave Rodriguez oral anti-inflammatory medicine then he has no problem. If Galea gave Rodriguez any injections, however, Philippon said he would be upset because he believed he should have been consulted for all such procedures.
“He doesn’t work at my clinic,” Philippon said of Galea. “Here is the way cheap NHL jerseysit works — I am the surgeon. I oversee the rehab.”
Philippon, who said he had met Galea several times, said that he gave Rodriguez plasma-rich platelet therapy, the same procedure that Galea is well known for.
The revelations that Galea treated Rodriguez come a week after Rodriguez told reporters that he had been contacted by federal authorities looking to talk to him about his connection to Galea, who has been charged by Canadian authorities with conspiring to smuggle human growth hormone and other drugs into the United States.
Rodriguez has yet to meet with federal investigators, although that meeting could come this week. He was informed of Galea’s statement Monday afternoon as he was talking amiably with several reporters in the Yankees’ clubhouse in Bradenton, Fla., where the team was playing the Pittsburgh Pirates in an exhibition game.
When a reporter brought up Galea’s statements to The Associated Press, Rodriguez said, “I can’t talk about that,” and walked away.
Several federal agencies in the United States are investigating whether Galea supplied performance-enhancers to professional athletes. Galea, who has treated N.F.L. players as well as the golfer Tiger Woods and Olympic medalists, has said he has prescribed human growth hormone but denies providing it to professional athletes.
In the interview with The Associated Press, Galea said he prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs to Rodriguez last year, after the hip surgery, but did not give him H.G.H. The articlecheap NBA jerseys did not indicate whether he administered the drugs in oral or injectable form.
“He had a damaged hip,” he told The Associated Press. “Inflamed. It was damaged. He needed anti-inflammatories for his hip. I was basically helping in the rehab.”
Galea also said that when authorities stopped his assistant at the United States-Canadian border last year, she was carrying only a small amount of H.G.H., exclusively for his personal use. Authorities found 20 vials and 76 ampules of drugs, includingcheap MLB jerseys H.G.H., in a car driven by the assistant, Mary Anne Catalano, according to federal court documents. Last week, The New York Times reported that in December, the Yankees asked representatives of Rodriguez whether he had had any dealings with Galea, and were told he did not. Their suspicions had been raised, they said, because after Rodriguez’s hip surgery, he was monitored by a chiropractor, Mark Lindsay, who has worked closely with Galea.
When reporters asked Rodriguez a week ago whether he had ever been treated by Galea, he responded by stating: “I can’t really get into that. You’ll know within time, all at the same time.”
Galea’s statement Monday that he did treat Rodriguez is likely to complicate matters for the third baseman, who admitted one year ago that he had used steroids from 2001 to 2003 while playing for the Texas Rangers. After Rodriguez’s admission, he met with investigatorscheap NBA jerseys for Major League Baseball, and no further action was taken.
And after returning from hip surgery, Rodriguez went on to have a solid 2009 season and an outstanding postseason, which culminated in the Yankees’ first championship in nine years. Until now, he was seen to have put his drug controversies behind him.
In an interview, Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman said the team was waiting until Rodriguez’s interview with federal investigators was concluded before trying to seek information from him.
“Alex has an interview still pending with a higher authority and because of those things we will not engage him,” he said. “We have no comment beyond our statement from before and it still applies. We will wait until Alex has an interview and after that we will be able to ask for answers.”
In the interview with The Associated Press, Galea said he believed the news media and authorities had exaggerated the allegations against him.
“I only brought enough for her to do two injections into me because I was away for two nights,” Galea told The Associated Press in reference to Catalano. “They madecheap NHL jerseys it look like I had 100 vials. I had one little vial and two doses were for me and you think that someone along the line would ask, ‘Well, how much is there?’ ”
Catalano is cooperating with United States investigators and has a court hearing scheduled in Buffalo on Friday.

Blake pulled after back soreness
"Before the game, he was playing catch and getting loose, and he said he felt something back here" Torre said of Blake's back. "Then during the gamecheap nfl jerseys, he came in to field a bunt [in the second inning] and dropped down sidearm to throw, and he felt it again. We just didn't want to take any chances. We'll wait and see. The good news is that it didn't bother him when he swung the bat.'' Blake singled to left in his only plate appearance in the top of the second inning, giving him two hits in five at-bats this spring. He is a key piece of what is expected to be the Dodgers' regular lineup this season.
He is listed as day to day.
Billingsley struggles, Kershaw breezes
Chad Billingsley and Clayton Kershaw, the two young guns2010 super bowl jerseys in the Dodgers' starting rotation, turned in pitching lines that were almost identical in Monday's 3-2 Cactus League loss to San Francisco: each threw two innings, each allowed a run on three hits and each struck out one.
Their performances, however, were hardly identical.
Billingsley, who started the game, began his spring by getting two quick strikes on Aaron Rowand. Six pitches later, he walked Rowand, and from there, Billingsley seemed to fall into his old habit of living on the edge.
He gave up two more hits, including an RBI single by Pablo Sandoval that tied the game after Matt Kemp's homer in the top of the inning. But Billingsley then got Bengie Molina to pop up, and Fred Lewis grounded into an inning-ending double play on a nice scoop by Dodgers first baseman James Loney to end the threat.
Billingsley got into more trouble in the second, giving up a leadoff double cheap saints jerseysto Juan Uribe and walking John Bowker before Kevin Frandsen sacrificed. Eugenio Velez failed to drive in the run, grounding to first against a drawn-in infield, and Rowand took a called third strike, ending Billingsley's day.
"In the first inning, Billingsley threw 24 pitches,'' Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "If he throws 30, I think you have to question whether to send him out for that second inning.''
High pitch counts plagued Billingsley at various times during his first four seasons in the majors. They plagued him again Monday, although he did wriggle out of danger.
"I want to see him comfortable,'' Torre said. "I want to see him be able to repeat his delivery. He worked on some mechanical stuff this offseason. ... He has a tendency sometimes nfl youth jerseysto throw a little bit too hard and start going sideways.''
Kershaw, by comparison, breezed through his two innings. He issued a harmless, two-out walk to Molina in the third, then gave up a run in the fourth on Bowker's triple -- a ball that scooted up the line and into the right-field corner on a borderline fair/foul call by the first-base umpire -- and Velez's single.
Kershaw then had to go to the bullpen and throw some more just to get to his nfl replica jerseysrequired number of pitches.
Wade sidelined
Dodgers reliever Cory Wade, who was hoping to compete for one of the team's bullpen openings, is sidelined for the next two weeks with a recurrence of the right-shoulder problems that landed him on the disabled list twice last season.
"He got a [cortisone] shot in the shoulder,'' Torre said. "He took an MRI, and there were no structural problems.''
Wade had a strong rookie campaign for the Dodgerscheap colts jerseys two years ago, but injuries and ineffectiveness resulted in him finishing last season at Triple-A Albuquerque. He didn't receive a September call-up.

Falcons welcome Robinson
Welcome to Atlanta, your first and final stop as an unrestricted agent.
"I was brought in on Mr. Blank's private jet," Robinson said Monday, "and I was sold from that point on."
Robinson, considered by many as the most sought-after cornerback cheap nfl jerseys in free agency, left the Houston Texans to sign a six-year, $57 million contract with Atlanta.
Approximately $22.5 million is guaranteed, though Robinson suggested the Falcons offered more than a big payday.
"This is something I've always dreamed about growing up in Athens, Ga.," Robinson said. "This was the first professional team that I wanted to play for. I'm home. This is where I need to be. Here is where I'm most comfortable."
Blank, general manager Thomas Dimitroff and coach Mike Smith (FSY) courted Turner in similar fashion before he signed a six-year, $34.5 million deal with $15 million guaranteed in early March 2009.
"We want to create an environment where a player2010 super bowl jerseys really wants to be here, not because of the contract, but because ... of our culture, our coaching staff and the resources we make available," Blank said. "It's a credit to our organization that whom we would argue was the top cornerback available this year in free agency made only one stop."
Just as Turner enforced Atlanta's rushing attack as the NFL's second-leading rusher two years ago, the Falcons hope Robinson steadies a secondary that includes three young cornerbacks in Christopher Owens, Brent Grimes (FSY) and Chevis Jackson (FSY) and two young strong safeties in Thomas DeCoud (FSY) and William Moore (FSY).
Free safety Erik Coleman (FSY) will play his seventh season in 2010cheap saints jerseys, cornerback Brian Williams (FSY), who signed a new one-year contract last week, will be playing his ninth season. Veteran cornerback Tye Hill (FSY) is still on the roster, too.
Robinson and Williams are likely to open mini-camp in May as the starting corners.
Atlanta dealt former starter Chris Houston to the Detroit Lions on Monday. The Lions returned two late-round draft picks.
Houston, a second-round pick for Atlanta in 2007, became expendable after the Falcons signed Robinson. The Falcons will receive an additional sixth-round pick from Detroitnfl youth jerseys and move up from the 18th spot to second in the fifth round.
Smith indicated that Robinson will be used similarly to the role he had in Houston: jamming the opponent's No. 1 receiver at the line of scrimmage before dropping into coverage.
In the first year under Smith and defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder, Atlanta nfl replica jerseysplayed mostly zone coverage. The Falcons mixed up their schemes to be less predictable last year, but they finished as the 28th-ranked in pass defense.
Dimitroff loves Robinson's fast, physical style of play.
"He has an uncanny ability, in our minds, to take the ball out and make plays on the ball," Dimitroff said. "He is very, very confident, and I'm sure you'll notice by the way he carries himself, an element of swagger we are definitely looking for with this football team."
Robinson, who has 13 career interceptions, sounded Monday as if he's ready to start training camp.
After Smith espoused his abilitynfl football jerseys to tackle, the coach said he was looking forward to the "DBs and receivers mixing it up in practice."
Robinson quickly interrupted.
"I agree," he said.
